The Lagree 40-Hour Rule: Why Practice Hours Are the Foundation of Great Instruction

40+HOURSRequired before Lagree instructor certification

Every aspiring Lagree instructor faces the same first step: demonstrating 40+ hours of Lagree practice before entering a certification programme. For some, this feels like an inconvenient prerequisite. In reality, it is the most important requirement in the process — and understanding why changes how you approach those hours.

Why 40 Hours? The Case for Practice-First Certification

You cannot effectively teach a method you have not experienced in your own body. Lagree is a somatic practice — it relies on proprioception, kinaesthetic awareness and the ability to feel the difference between correct and incorrect form at a neuromuscular level.

These things cannot be learned from a manual alone. An instructor who has 40+ hours of Lagree practice knows:

This experiential knowledge is irreplaceable — and 40 hours is the minimum threshold at which most people genuinely internalise the method rather than just performing it.

"The best Lagree instructors are not just technically qualified. They love the method because they have felt what it does. The 40-hour rule exists to ensure that foundation is real."

What Evidence Is Accepted?

Core Wellness Academy accepts several forms of evidence for your 40+ hours. Any combination that accounts for your total practice time is sufficient:

We are not looking for perfection — we are looking for genuine, documented engagement with the method.

How to Build Your Hours in the UAE

Dubai has multiple Lagree studios where you can build your prerequisite hours. Most studios offer introductory packages for new clients — typically 5 or 10 classes at a reduced rate. Attending 3 classes per week, you can accumulate 40+ hours in approximately 12–14 weeks.

If you are based outside the UAE, any Lagree studio globally counts towards your hours — studios in London, New York, Los Angeles, Sydney and Singapore all qualify. Building hours while travelling is entirely feasible.

How to Use Those Hours Well

Do not just collect the hours — use them intentionally. Pay attention to how instructors cue, correct and manage the room. Notice how they handle beginners alongside experienced participants. Take notes after class. Your 40 hours before certification are not just a requirement — they are the first chapter of your education as a teacher.

Once you have your hours, the Level 01 Foundation certification is a 3-day intensive available in Dubai, Riyadh and Beirut. Contact us to find out which upcoming cohort is right for you, or explore our full range of instructor certification programmes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions Answered

Do I need exactly 40 hours or is it approximate?

40 hours is the minimum threshold. We look for genuine, documented engagement — a session log, receipts or an instructor letter. Slightly under 40 with clear commitment is always considered in context.

Do my Lagree hours need to be from a specific studio?

No. Any certified Lagree studio globally counts — Dubai, London, New York, Sydney or anywhere else. ClassPass records, studio receipts or a signed instructor letter all serve as evidence.

How long does it take to build 40 practice hours?

Training 3 times per week at 50 minutes per session, you accumulate 40+ hours in approximately 12–14 weeks. Many prospective instructors are already well past 40 hours before they start thinking about certification.

Can I do the certification if I have trained in Pilates but not specifically Lagree?

Pilates experience is valuable background, but the 40-hour requirement is specific to Lagree on the Megaformer. The methods are distinct enough that Lagree-specific hours are required before certification.
